If you are anything like me, the daily commutes can become the one of the most dreaded parts of your day. Enter audiobooks! They have become my go-to source of making my almost hour long commute; a lot less sucky. I still end up at work, so it might as well be an enjoyable trip!

I have put together a list of 5 of my favorite audiobooks. Who doesn't love a good novel and a good storyteller? Self admittedly; one of my favorite authors is Kirstin Hannah. As you'll see from the list she makes it on here more than once. But what makes an audio book great? Sometimes it's not just the author, but the narrator too. They need to be able to deliver the story as much as the author needs to tell it.

I've included this link to Audible, my personal favorite app to find audiobooks.

Best yet if you're a prime member you 2 free books with a 30 day trial period!

I promise you once you start listing you'll have a hard time stopping! It's perfect for busy people who have little or no time to read for pleasure. ( AKA moms everywhere.)

This is one of my all time favorite audiobooks. Narrated by Julia Whelan, also a personal fav. Set in Alaska in 1974, a story of a girl who is coming of age with a family that is just as wild as the wilderness they live in. A true "sit in the driveway and listen to finish a chapter" book!

From the summary:

"The Great Alone is a daring, beautiful, stay-up-all-night audiobook about love and loss, the fight for survival, and the wildness that lives in both man and nature.'

I don't know what it is about my love for the historic view of Hollywood, but this book brings it into a light that I just love. There are multiple narrators that bring each main character to life. I found myself believing that Evelyn Hugo was a real actress and that her life was memorizing, tragic and beautiful all at the same time. If you're in the mood for a great historic novel, this is one for your list.

From the summary:

"Written with Reid's signature talent for "creating complex, likable characters" (Real Simple), this is a fascinating journey through the splendor of Old Hollywood into the harsh realities of

the present day as two women struggle with what it means - and what it takes - to face the truth."

I can not say enough about how wonderful this audiobook is delivered. The narrators bring these characters to life, as their stories are told in the first person. Another historical fiction that is set during a time where the world is changing but maybe not fast enough in a small town in Mississippi in 1962.

If you've seen this movie and not listened to the audiobook, do yourself a favor and add this one to your library!

From the summary:

"In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another."

This memoir is so intriguing I had to remind myself that is was not a fictional novel. There is a very good reason it was named one of the 10 best books of the year by the New York Times Book Review. Going back again to narrator Julia Whelan, the perspective of the authors youth is captivating and inspirational.

From the books summary:

"An unforgettable memoir about a young girl who, kept out of school, leaves her survivalist family and goes on to earn a PhD from Cambridge University."

As I write this out, I am so thankful that I did not need to rank these books in any particular order, because this one is AMAZING! If you are a fan of historical fiction and empowered women, please add this audiobook to your collection! You will not be disappointed.

From the summary:

"With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war."

Thinking about giving the gift of Audible? What a great way to start a book club! Check it out here.

If you have an audiobook that didn't make the list, leave me a comment.

I look forward to listening to suggestions!

In the mean time slow down and enjoy the ride!
